Happy New Year 2018!

I'm wishing all my friends, bloggie buddies, and fellow Celebrate hoppers a wonderful, healthy, and prosperous New Year!!!

Special greetings to those who, like me, have some health issues to get through. Wishing all of us a great 2018 and a beautiful (and short) road to recovery.

Celebrate: I Hope I Can Do This!

I'm so sorry that I've been missing from the Celebrate hop for the past few months. In case anyone missed my last post, my absence is the result of a number of health issues including having a stroke and my subsequent "dementia."  Dementia limits my ability to remember things. Every day, I wake up with little to no memory of the past day and even months before! So my short term memory is pretty pitiful, and my long term memory (past years) is kinda spotty, too. My husband -- Mr. Awesome! -- is very supportive and constantly helping me, so I've been improving. Yay! I think I'm ready to get back on the horse -- the Blog Hop Horse -- and start posting just as if I'm a regular person. Woohoo!

This week, I'm Celebrating my ability to write a post and schedule it for the right day (I did it -- See?!! ) And I intend to visit all you wonderful hoppers!

(I'm posting this at night, so I'm crossing my fingers that I remember I did it when I wake up tomorrow! LOL)

Celebrate: Trials and Tribulations

So you're probably wondering where I disappeared to for the last 4 months. Well, I had a very bad flu and then ended up in the hospital where they found I had arteriosclerosis ... and then I had a brain bleed and got dementia. I'm still dealing with memory loss and overall confusion. Yes, it's been a real fun time...

Luckily, I have a very supportive husband and with his constant help I've finally recovered health-wise, although my memory is still a bit iffy... It seems my short term memory is the most iffy, but my long term memory is pretty good. In other words, I can remember my childhood, but the past few years are a bit foggy. However, with his help I'm muddling through and getting better every day.

Please send me your good wishes and I'll cross my fingers that my memory gets stronger 'cause it's weird to have a screwed-up short term memory and have no idea what happened yesterday ... or the last few months...

Celebrate: Au Revoir

"Au revoir" means until I see you again. In this case it's more of an until I'm well enough to stay upright in a chair long enough to write blog posts again.

According to the doctors and lab results, I'm "fine." Tell that to my very nauseous tummy and unhappy digestive system that have made me lose 8 kilograms (17 pounds) in the last 2 weeks. Not kidding. I spend most of my time in bed or in the bathroom.

It's very hard to sit at my laptop, so I'm off everything -- Facebook, my CPs' forum, Twitter (if you see a tweet, it's a robot, not the real me), gmail, and now Blogger. I hope you can forgive me for not commenting on your posts and, for a while at least, for not posting. Until someone figures out what's wrong with me and fixes it, I just don't have the strength to be on the net.

Celebrate Kindle Scout Tip & Giveaways

In case you haven't heard of this, Kindle Scout belongs to Amazon. It’s part of their publishing arm, but they don't choose the books, votes from people choose the books, like a popularity contest.

“Kindle Scout is reader-powered publishing for new, never-before-published books. It’s a place where readers help decide if a book gets published. Selected books will be published by Kindle Press and receive 5-year renewable terms, a $1,500 advance, 50% eBook royalty rate, easy rights reversions and featured Amazon marketing.”

If the author manages to get 3k clicks/nominations on their book in 30 days, it will be published and all those who nominated it will receive free ecopies when it releases. (Scout pages used to list how many nominations each book had received and the number needed to reach the goal. They don’t post it now, so I can't be sure of the number authors need. But I’ve seen several before and I think the goal was either 3k or 5k.)

Many writers have contacted me on Facebook or Twitter and asked me to go vote for their book. I always felt sorry for them, having to contact complete strangers and beg for a vote. I've only heard of one writer who got enough votes to be published -- all the others failed.

Then, as I was searching for giveaways for this week's post, I came upon a giveaway tied to Kindle Scout that's very clever.

The author, Lincoln Cole, is offering a $50 Amazon card and the first task on the rafflecopter is to go to Kindle Scout and vote for his book. I know a lot of people would like to get their hands on a $50 Amazon card, and a "click" on Kindle Scout is pretty easy.

I hope all the authors I know have publishers or are happy self-publishing, but if you want to try Kindle Scout, I recommend this clever giveaway idea. You don't have to write a ton of strangers and beg, just put up some money for a gift card and offer a chance to win it as an incentive to vote.

Here's Lincoln Cole's giveaway so you can have a look-see: https://www.lincolncole.net/giveaway

I'm celebrating that I already have a publisher because I'm way too cheap to cough up the money for a gift card!

Have you ever contacted complete strangers and asked them for a favor?

Celebrate: Too Relaxed? & Giveaways

An egg ...  or meee?!

I was sleeping very comfortably, somehow not realizing it was Thursday and I'd forgotten to do a Celebrate post. But I accidentally woke up in the wee hours and whipped this off!

I've had a good, relaxed week, and I think I've come up with the character arc I so desperately need for my next novel. (I can't write a character if I have no idea what that character's arc is.)  So yay for me and Paris Underworld! Now I just have to finish Coldest Night ...

Have you ever lost track of what day it was, especially when you have days off work?

Happy Memorial Day!
